Awareness and change

In  my previous posts I’ve talked about the importance  of awareness as the starting point for change, which for many people resonated and stirred a desire to explore this in their own lives. Then there was this big BUT….the beginning of many questions “how do I become aware?” “what questions do I ask?”
“how do I actually start??” “what do I do?”.
So I decided the only way to answer these questions was to embark on this ‘quest’ myself and explore the process from personal experience which I could weave together with theory and tools. In our modern world we often dissect , analyse and strip bare our past hurts, and fears under the stark light of “therapy”. Awareness in the majority of mainstream therapy is gained through a series of questions which break us down into compartments  based on our thoughts-feelings-behaviours which are scaled and assigned an appropriate label and “solution”. While I often utilised these in my counselling career I was always mindful of bringing more soul into the work, softening the edges and this is part of the Druid Therapy journey.
Instead of shining the bright clinical light of psychoanalysis on  wounding, I wanted to bring aspects of Druidry into this journey, I wanted to sit by the fire and in the warm light begin this quest into my deepest wounding and also the gifts of healing.
So how do we do this? One way is exploring the myth of Cerridwen s Cauldron as a process of transformation and change. The Goddess Cerridwen tended a magical brew intended to contain all wisdom which was brewed and tended for a year and a day.
Into this cauldron was put specific ingredients which were added, boiled, rendered into a magical potion…these were carefully stirred and watched over in the Goddesses cauldron with the fire constantly tended to ensure the “cooking” occurred. To grow our awareness try this following exercise.
Draw your own cauldron on a large piece of paper.
Inside the cauldron write down what things are already inside ( these can be helpful or unhelpful, friends, work, spiritual beliefs, social connections, hobbies, sleep, money, health, )
Next on the outside of the cauldron write down the things which may be leaking from your cauldron ( such as work to many hours, illness, stress about….,poor diet, relationships).
After you have done this ask yourself some questions
What do I want to change about this picture?
Where can I stop the “leaks”?
Is there enough inside the cauldron?
By doing this over the next few days you develop you self awareness and begin to understand who you are and how you function. You don’t need to “DO” anything at this point as the awareness itself is more than enough and  remember this is about counselling by the fire, a gentle journey into our souls awakening.
